One of the most tumultuous developmental milestones in adoption can be the transition from adopted teen to young adult when a youth is not ready.  Leaving then returning home, triggered attachment insecurities and its resulting destructive behavior can be components of a consuming pattern of events, well recognized by families and youth in the thick of it. This workshop is for any adoptive parent going through the heartache of helping your near adult child land somewhere after high school graduation.  The barriers are many and the resources few, especially when your child’s issues prevent him from collaboratively working with you.

Julie Sherman, adoptive parent and Thrivent Financial associate, along with Cathryn Reher, Attorney with Long, Reher, Hanson, & Price, P.A., will share practical financial and legal strategies to aid your family and child in this transition.

Adoption focused therapist Krista Nelson of Family Circle Counseling will address the strong emotional impact this journey sparks with adoptive parents and older teens alike.  Using both lecture and discussion, parents will be asked to redefine what constitutes success, independence and responsibility for self and youth taking untraditional routes to adulthood.
